Fall 2017 NRC NOVICE Registration

neponset

Information night at the Milton Yacht Club on Wharf Street August 17th from 7:00 – 7:30 PM. Come learn about the program and ask any questions you might have.

The fall season is the time of year for head races where boats start at timed intervals and compete against the clock in order to determine the winner. Races range from 4,000 to 6,000 meters. Neponset Rowing teams compete in head races throughout New England. The most prominent is the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta held on the 3rd weekend in October, where Neponset Rowing crews compete against teams from all over the world. Not every athlete will make a boat for the Head of the Charles, but all will have the opportunity to race in other regattas such as the Textile River Regatta, the New Hampshire Championships, the Head of Merrimack, and Massachusetts State Championships.

The Novice Program prepares athletes for the Varsity Program the following year. Novice athletes train as a group five days per week, working toward individual and team goals throughout the year. They build on the skills developed in Learn to Row and gain racing experience at fall and spring regattas. Athletes interested in becoming coxswains, who steer the boat and learn to motivate the rowers, are also encouraged to sign up. The Novice program runs in the fall and spring, with an opportunity to train with the Varsity during the winter. The Novice Program is for first time athletes or returning athletes who have only rowed one season with Friends of Milton Crew.

Please review the following important information.

Cancellation of practice
We practice in all weather except active lightning storms or other extreme conditions. Because our weather changes rapidly, rowers should assume practice will be held regardless of the weather and dress appropriately, unless they are told by a member of the coaching staff that practice has been cancelled.

Registration limits
Team size may be limited by our equipment and coaching resources, and safety consideration.

The first two weeks of practice in each season will serve as a try-out period. Any participant who is unable to continue in the program due to these restrictions after the try-out period will be refunded.

Evaluation criteria include, among other things, a positive attitude, full participation in workouts, and the ability to pick up the fundamentals of the rowing stroke.

Neponset Rowing Club participation fee
The Neponset Rowing Club fee is $600. Our fees cover only our operating costs including coaches’ salaries, regatta fees, gas for coaches’ launches, and local travel expenses.

REFUND POLICY
Refunds will be given within the first two weeks due to injury, membership limits, or if a student decides the sport is not for him/her.

As a 501 (3) © organization, your contribution to Friends of Milton Crew is tax-deductible.
