Spring 2017 Registration – MHS Crew Team

miltoncrewPlease carefully READ and COMPLETE the following. Failure to do so may put your participation in the program and racing in any regattas at risk.

Please note all registration forms must be completed by March 13, 2017. Thanks for your cooperation. These items are required to ensure safety and be in compliance with governing associations.

Please note Information Nights will be held at Milton High School on Thursday February 9th @ 7:00 pm and Tuesday February 28 @ 7:00pm.

The season starts on March 20th and finishes May 31st. Practice locations are Milton High School (balcony & weight room), Milton Yacht Club and Union Boat Club (varsity only).

To register you need to complete the following:

Step 1 – Sign the online US Rowing WaiverYou can find instructions on how to complete the waiver HERE. There are instructions for both first time rowers and returning rowers.

Step 2 – Fill out the online enrollment form found HERE. This includes personal registration info, emergency contacts, volunteer opportunities, and payment plans.

Step 3 – Print out and complete the medical release found HERE. Note: This is for first time rowers only.

Step 4 – Print out and complete the swim test forms found HERE. You may take the test at ANY pool with a certified lifeguard. We suggest the Thomas M. Menino YMCA in Hyde Park (1137 River Street). Their phone number is (617) 361-2300. Please call first to check availability. Note: This is for first time rowers only.

Step 5 – Read the Milton High School Rowing Code of Conduct found HERE. Print out and sign the signature page. Note: This is for first time rowers only.

Step 5 – Mail the materials: completed medical release form, swim test confirmation, and signature page from the Milton high School Code of Conduct along with payment (make all checks payable to The Friends of Milton Crew) corresponding to payment option you chose on enrollment form to:

AND . . . Please review the following important information.

Cancellation of practice
We practice in all weather except active lightning storms or other extreme conditions. Because our weather changes rapidly, rowers should assume practice will be held regardless of the weather and dress appropriately, unless they are told by a member of the coaching staff that practice has been cancelled.

Registration limits
Team size may be limited by our equipment and coaching resources, and safety consideration.

The first two weeks of practice in each season will serve as a try-out period. Any participant who is unable to continue in the program due to these restrictions after the try-out period will be refunded.

Evaluation criteria include, among other things, a positive attitude, full participation in workouts, and the ability to pick up the fundamentals of the rowing stroke.

Milton High School Crew participation fee
The Milton High School Crew participation fee is $650. Our fees cover only our operating costs including coaches’ salaries, regatta fees, gas for coaches’ launches, and local travel expenses.

Refunds will be given within the first two weeks due to injury, membership limits, or if a student decides the sport is not for him/her.
